Bonaparte's Gull

I got my first image of a Bonaparte's in flight. It is soft and back lit but I like it. This was my first sighting of a Bonaparte this year. I compensated down 2/3s so I would not blow out the whites but the leading edges of the wings still got a bit singed. I do like the back lit effect and I still got the wing detail.

Taken at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, Irvine CA

Canon 7D w EF 500mmL f/4.0
1/1000 at f / 5.6
Compensation- 2/3
ISO 500
Tripod

C & C's always appreciated

Nice flight position.

I wish I had digital back when I lived in NJ - it would have encouraged me to spend more time with the abundant gulls that I basically took for granted.

Wonderful contrast with the back light and I like the way some of the light comes through the feathers, well done.

Great flight photo Harry  The backlight really works well in this image, great wing position and fanned tail.

The dark background with backlighting is a wonderful situation for the gull. Excellent flight pose. Excellent.
