Wild Bee Hive
by Steve Balke
This image shows a very recent close-up (from a long distance) of a portion of a very large bee hive located in a tree on the campus of the University of Toronto in Mississauga. I used my 560 mm lens and the bees were far enough away from me that I thought that they were leaves until I saw the image on my computer. I've never before seen such a nest. It was quite a surprise: I expected a wild bee hive to resemble a wasp nest. Also, it has been down to freezing temperatures around here at night these days. These bees must be pretty hardy!
There was so much structure in this image and not that much interesting color that I decided to convert it to B&W using Silver Efex Pro 2.
All comments most welcome.

I think the silver efex works well to show good contrast, along with the textures and details I see.
Thanks for sharing this wonder
I've never seen a hive like this, very interesting image. Great detail, texture and b&w work.
