Fall???

Yeah, that's early November in Yosemite Valley. I was able to get over and meet up with Lon for a couple of days. like he said, we didn't know if we were experiencing spring, fall, or winter all in the course of 2 days, and usually within shouting distance of each scene. Well maybe for a loud mouth  Anyway, I left this in color because of the foreground. I'd love to hear your thoughts. large version included as well.

D200,
18-70mm,
1/2sec +1step, F/11,

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, For me I like that you left this in color, even though it would make a very nice b/w. I like the foreground color here alot, and I think it is because it gives me that feel of just merging into winter, which I really enjoy the look of. The snow covered trees and mountain look wonderful. Nice work!

So wintery! I love it chris! The fog is a big compliment too.

That is really nice, Chris. The snow makes for some wonderful textures.

Looks like the whole scene was dusted with powdered sugar. I like the warm tones in the fg grass and the shroud of fog in the bg. There's enough tension between the two seasons here to infuse this image with life. It sings

Ah ha, so that's what you were shooting! What a gorgeous morning we had Chris. I can see we were both attracted to the autumn grasses and cattails sticking up through the snow. I have two that I'll share soon from the same meadow that same morning.

This one is wonderful. I really like the elements in the foreground; the cattails breaking up what would be a blank, detail-less foreground. The canopy of low-lying clouds seals to the top of the frame nicely and I think this is just a wonderful Yosemite winter landscape. And even though the top of the center tree merges with the bg, that tree does very well to anchor the entire landscape.

Beautiful work Chris. Looking forward to seeing more.

Incredible Chris. Love how the snow, covering everything in sight, has created a wonderful textural quality to the cattails, trees, and rock. The warm tones in the FG work so nicely with the cooler tones in the background. Really like how you centered the solitary tree which heightens the sense of isolation. Love it.

Wow! Chris. Amazing conditions you had, and to think just a week before it was all color and blue jay blue skies. Really an impressive scene.

I like this as is Chris. You captured some very mood conditions here and the color in the foreground adds to that mood..

Nice one Chris, the color in the foreground is very appealing. There appears to be a very slight CW tilt to it, could be just the way the landscape is though.

Chris, the layers in your image work perfectly together for me, and the clouds covering the mountains just make the difference. A wonderful subtle composition to my eye with delightful details especially in the larger version.

Hi Chris,

I think the processing looks superb and the conditions are excellent. However, I don't think the shot conveys depth very well as the tree in the middle of the scene looks compressed against the background and it is hard to tell just how big that field really is. Don't get me wrong it's still a very nice shot, I just don't think it's one of your best. I hope all is well.

Beautiful "just snowed" feeling, Chris. Especially I love the color in the foreground and the textures captured. :toast:

The foreground color adds another dimension to an otherwise monochrome image. Beautiful!

Sweet! I think the foreground is essential, as it really leads me into the scene. Seems like you guys had stellar conditions. I'm jealous. :toast:

Must have been wonderful. Kid-in-a-candy-store like experience. Love the high key processing. Maybe the sky is a bit too much "high key" (= white, featureless), but not a deal breaker. As usual, you delive the elegance and the subtle beauty. Congrats on another Chis-image. Yeah new word: "Chrisimage" (Phonetically obviously related to "Pilgrimage"). One day, there will be a pilgrimage(s) to see the Chrisimage(s).

(What a pint of beer after work can do to a guy... )
