I haven't posted any avian images in a long time. I've been trying and trying to get something that I felt was okay to post to get feedback on. This is a dark bird, and I don't know whether the shadow under the wing should be lightened more or whether it's okay as is, or maybe the whole image should be lighter? Comments on that and anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

This looks great to me Barbara. When looking up at a bird in flight there is tonal and shadow areas. Just because programs allow us to make "perfect" doesn't mean we want to do that all the time.

Great image in my opinion.

Nice sharp image Barbara. There is enought detail in the bird with the light you had.

Excellent. The sharpness/detail is very good here. I have no issues with the shadow side detail and I prefer leaving it dark to artificially lightening it with shadow/highlight.

Nice job Barbara, a very effective, simple composition and presentation. I like the eye contact with the Pelican, and there are some nice details on the higher-resolution version.

I'm with Richard on this, Barbara. There is plenty of detail in all but the darkest area. The trick is to process to no more than you can actually see. I know from experience, that is a hard line to draw! The temptation is always there to do just a little more.

You picked up some very good detail, and this has a nice natural look.

Barbara, I think the shadows make the image. You are doing great.
