Kayaking in the Great Bear

This is a bit of a departure for me - including a human in an image!! But when this scene unfolded before me during a recent trip into the Great Bear Rainforest on the BC coast I couldn't resist pointing my camera its way!

Before anyone thinks "over-saturated colours" I have to say that the colours have been globally DESATURATED (by 10 Photoshop "units") - except for the reflections in the water immediately below and around the kayaker. One of the many reasons I travel into the Great Bear Rainforest each year is the colour!

Subject: Female human (Homo sapien) enjoying the splendour of the Great Bear Rainforest
Location: Great Bear Rainforest, BC, Canada
Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VRII lens @ 80mm (120mm EFL). Hand-held with VR on and in "normal" mode.
Exposure: 1/160s @ f5; ISO 280 -0.67 stop compensation from matrix-metered exposure setting.
Crop: None - this is full frame

If anyone is interested in learning more about this shot (including processing details, info about the Great Bear Rainforest, etc.), just go here:

To access the information about the image just click on the small tabs below the image (e.g., "In the Field", "Behind the Camera", etc.).

Comments and critiques welcomed - probably best to view the larger version prior to doing so!

Cheers...thanks for looking...

Nice scene, with kayaker. I like the soft muted colors. Looks like a very interesting place to explore. TFS

Beautiful image, Brad. I'm glad you didn't pass on shooting this. Excellent natural looking colors with a nice soft feel and beautiful looking light. The mood you captured here is what really makes it for me, which is a very calming feel. I don't think that happens unless you were feeling that when you captured this. Excellent image!

Beautiful natural scene Brad. The kayaker adds a sense of discovery of a beautiful place. Color looks very natural and not over saturated.
