Unforgettable Sunrise

This has been a great week up here in Whistler. I have Zack Schnepf visiting from Portland Oregon. Zack has been a great asset in assisting me with the set up of my new Epson 9900 printer. It has been great to finally see some of my images come to life in large format print sizes. The quality of the Epson is outstanding.

I finally have had the chance to get back to some of my images from last spring 2011 while on my trip to the SW.

This image was taken from the top of my Land Rover during a morning show of light in the Owens Valley in the eastern sierra's. 2 images were used to control the exposure of the foreground and background sky. A 3rd image was also used to capture a longer exposure of the river reflection.

I also have to thank Zack for his Photoshop assistance in educating me on the necessary techniques to process this image for print.

I appreciate any comments or critiques

Great image James, the river curve pulls me in and then the spectacular background. The blending is excellent to my eye, I'm sure it'll print up a treat. :toast:

Amazing scene James, love the colors and light. Part of me wishes you had turned the camera a little further right so the mountain range wasn't quite as for to the right hand border, minor though..

Enjoy the print!!

James,

This is a nicely layered image with great subtle detail in the foreground matched against the dramatic sky. You also found a less seen view, between Bishop and Big Pine if my memory doesn't fail me. Very well done.

This compares well with the best of the numerous photos from this locations I've seen. The intense light on the horizon is particularly nice. I like this painterly interpretation.

Gorgeous image, James. I like the details in the foreground as much as the mountains and cloud light.

Wow! Nicely done, James. The blends have made for a very natural looking scene. Print this baby big.

That light is UNREAL. Woah. Compositionally it's there, though I find the blue top left distracting a bit and kind of want the camera turned a bit to the right. Could just be a minor nit. (haven't looked below yet). The processing is killer. Love that glow in the grasses!

Gorgeous shot......nice work. The light is really something special and you capture it beautifully. I hear what others are saying about turning to the right but I like the fg grasses on the left a lot and I think including them was a good choice. Of course you could have went wider and got it all but some of the image's impact would be sacrificed....IMO. Well done. :toast:

This image looks fantastic James! It was a pleasure to work on it with you. The large print of this is even more impressive! Incredible capture my friend!

Interesting note, the blue of the sky had to be toned way down even to get it to this point. The natural saturation of that morning was incredible.

Yeah, that's an incredible place. Recognizeable, but also a bit different point of view than I'm used to. Love the color everywhere in the scene, from the foreground foliage to the reflections to the sky. Would have liked to see a larger version though, James!

Really like how the eye is drawn back to that amazing light by the stream. Love the soft light and detail of the foreground foliage as well. Stunning image.

I'm a bit late getting my comment in, but I loved everything about this the first time I opened it...the fg detail, the sky, the light on the snow-capped mountains, all beautifully rendered. Splendid work, James.
