Ice

Not much ice here yet this year. Have had a little starting on the ponds and back waters of the river, so it won't be too long now. Things seem a little late this year for us as far as cold weather and snow / ice.
This is an image I made last year just before New Years. Some of you may remember a picture I posted of this ice back then. This is one I shot the next day while a little more melting had gone on. The water level had droped here leaving rings of ice around a couple of trees in this area. It was interesting to see the shapes that appeared with a bit of warmer weather, which didn't last long.

Delicate ice dancers. I can hear the flow of the water underneath and the soft music it makes when it touches its neighbor. Like it alot. :toast:

Very artistic. They look like wind chimes. No suggestions from me. Looks good as posted.

Stopped in time by more freezing. I like the bell shapes just before the big blooms. Would have liked to see some of these more individualized to get a singular complete shape. The water? in the foreground almost looks like fog. Very ghostly.

Beautiful in its simplicity and contrast. PS, my 4 year old was looking over my shoulder as I viewed this for the first time and wanted me to print it out, I guess you've got a new fan!

Thanks much for your comments on this so far! Here is a wider shot of this ice to give you a better idea of what this looked like. The bg is the tree trunk and of course the water below. Thanks much!
Kurt, Thanks!, and tell your 4 year old thanks too  . I have a 4 year old grand-daughter and she liked it too.

Fascinating, Nick! The part of the image that I really like are the ghost like reflections, pretty neat.

Thanks guys!
Adam, Those smoke like reflections are what I liked most about that shot too.
This one is the image I posted here the last day of Dec last year. This one made me think of champagne glasses hanging from a rack. Thought it made a good New Years image last year. Thanks to all of you!, and Happy upcoming New Years.

Very original and cool (literally too) Nick. It reminds me of an X-Ray. I think this is a top flight image from you. Congrats.

Michael

PS - Just noticed the second image. I think I like that one even better. :toast: :toast:

Nick,

Awesome! At first glance I wanted to crop some empty space off the bottom, but then I realize how important and interesting the "smokey" patterns are in the darkness; a subtle yet important element to compliment the fascinating icicles. Maybe crop out the right hand cluster? Just wondering.

The shapely formations themselves are enough to make this an interesting image but the smoky bottom third add a little mystery that keeps me exploring the frame.

Nick, your image has an amazing abstract quality to me. I especially like the kind of rhythm in this formation.
