I've been trying this technique of placing items on the glass of my scanner and scanning them into a .jpeg file. I had only recently learned about this process and wanted to give it a try.

I picked leaves from my garden this morning ... Columbine, Lavendar and an Old-Fashioned Rose and placed them on the scanner glass. The only processing that was needed was to resize and crop the image, no other processing. I'm finding this to be a very interesting way to capture images, although not everything can be placed on a scanner.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? All are always welcome.

That's pretty cool! Generally I like the image, I just don't like whats going on with the black BG--looks like some streaks and grainy looking.

Thanks Bill. The more I work with this technique, the better I will get. I'll see how I can improve the background. Thanks for taking a look.

I love the wonderful mixture of colors and textures you have in this scan, Barbara. Plus you did a great job in making a pleasing arrangement. However, I would wish to see more room on all sides of the photo, but I know you were limited by the scanner size. Perhaps extra background could be added after scanning during processing which would be quite easy to do with a black background. Also an easy fix to eleminate any streaks/grain from background that Bill mentioned.

I like the depth scans give to an image. I haven't tried this as of yet but look forward to seeing more of yours!

The light on the rose leaves is beautiful. a very pleasing arrangement. I would like to see just a bit more of the lavender leaves, and a little more room at the top. Bet you'll have a blast perfecting this technique. Very nice image

Thanks everyone for your comments. This was only the second time I tried scanning objects so I have a lot to learn, but I love a challenge. I will take notes on all the comments and try and try again. I think it's almost as challenging as if you're photographing with a camera since you can never know exactly what the image will look like until you hit that scan button. I think it's just an interesting process and I will definitely continue to work on more. Thanks again for all the comments. I appreciate them very much.

I like the concept Barbara. I would want to try bring the light on the green upper portion down a bit to focus more attention on the pretty yellow in the lower.
