Mars Sunrise

by Adrian Metzelaar

Gallery: LandscapePosted December 18, 2011503 views18 comments
A fiery sunrise in the beautiful location of Námaskarð in the North of Iceland. As the sun rose, it lit up the cloud adding to the already red colour of the ground making me feel like I was on Mars. C&C welcome and please view large. Thanks. Adrian

Dramatic and mysterious. Unlike Mars, it has a wonderful atmosphere

Adrian,

This is fantastic! What a great combination of natural elements, dynamic conditions and a very strong near/far composition. The colors here border on metallic I don't know what could improve this, but if it were mine I would consider a slight crop from the bottom; say just above the two brighter knobs at the bottom, minor thought though.

I love this.

Stunning tones and great foreground textures leading the eye back to the vanishing mist. Would never have thought this was Iceland. :toast:

Good eye for composing and capturing this scene. The light does a nice job of enhancing the starkness of the landscape.

Thanks for all the feedback. Lon, I agree with you, this might look better in a 6x5 format - it's currently 6x4.5.

Gorgeous stuff here, Adrian. The light is spectacular and the scenery is quite dramatic and unusual, all making for an excellent shot.

A really striking landscape that immediately draws me in. One of the next thoughts I had was that it needed a crop from the bottom which I now see has already mentioned. Looks awesome in any case.

As talked about a crop off the bottom. I think it really tightens the composition. Thanks for all the feedback!

Adrian,

I can only speak for myself since I suggested the crop, but I must say the result is outstanding. I just think it's amazing how such a little change can make such an impact. The comp is tighter as you mentioned and simply just much stronger. thanks for taking the time to rework and repost.
