Half a Head

This seed head had already lost most of it's seeds, leaving it rather one-sided. I tried to find a composition that took advantage of that. Of several I tried, this one is my favorite. Thanks for looking.

Always a fascinating subject to shoot! A suggestion for another comp of this photo would be a horizontal rectangle comp of the top half with the bottom line crossing through the pinkish center. Just a thought. Good focus on the front "wisps" and DOF choice.

Great subject. I am attracted to the detail and patterns of the seeds but the actual center isn't doing much for me. You indicate you tried several comps. I'd suggested something along the lines of what was suggested by Carolyn - i.e., rotate this 90 degress cw and then crop the top (flower center), if you haven't tried that.

Do you have a macro lens? These seed heads are excellent subjects for extreme shallow dof closeups. :wavey:

Well seen, the details and dof are great. It's a nice alternative to the usual "great big puffy ball" shot. I also like the sharp center because it add some color. Does this mean that you've got the macro? Happy holidays!
