Downpour

This was taken one morning in Kruger, South Africa, when the weather was not your obvious photography weather. It was shot with a Nikon F100 with an 80-400VR on Provia 400F.

This image was recently chosen as a Highly Honored Winner in the 2004 Nature's Best Photography Contest (I'm smiling now).

Marsel...this is brilliant. I can see why this was doing so well in the Nature's Best Photography Contest. I like everything about it. Did you use any fill-flash as there's even a catchlight in the eye of the smaller one which face seems to be in the shadow. One of the best images I've seen of you. Keep up this high quality work!

Marsel

I would agree...a tremendous image! This image has strong anthropomorphism and definitely conjures up emotion for the baboons by the viewer. Outstanding.

Marsel - I can defintely see why this was a winner!! Excellent image: technicals all right on target, the detail is amazing, the pose of both mom and child are great - and, the "downpour" adds immensely to the image. Well done!! (and Congratulations!)

Thanks for the kind words

Jasper - I didn't use any fill flash; I was afraid it would reflect on the pouring rain (would it?). The catchlight is natural, but I brightened it a little in PS.

This awesome! It really does not get much better. Congrats on taking the initiative to photograph at a time when others put there camera gear away. Also, nice to see such clean results from Provia 400. I have only used it a couple of times but have been pleasantly surprised, even when pushing it a stop to 800!

wow, I love the facial expression and the colours and mood of that photo. The raing falling with an angle is nice too.
