Spent some time organizing files this weekend, and processed this image of this young gun from a couple years ago... taken at Farmington Bay WMA here in northern Utah.

The outstretched feathers are gorgeous but the background is a bit of a distraction for my tastes

I like the feathers very much. The BG can be a bit distracting, but the image is really wonderful!

Appealing colors for me and nice light on the bird. I'm fine with the background but do wish for a bit more sharpness in face and body.

Addendum: John, I revisited this image this morning and I think I was wrong in my comment about sharpness - the face is certainly sharp enough. I'm thinking my eye was fooled partly by the apparent nictitating membrane partially over the eye and mistaking a slight lack of detail for softness. I've never been a great judge of critical sharpness anyway. Sorry.

Love the comp here John. Nice bird position with good sharpness. The eye does look a bit odd with the nictitating membrane in play, but when they blink they blink.
