Mangrove Madness

A stormy sunrise in the Florida Keys. The mangrove on the left is a Black Mangrove while the one on the right is a Red Mangrove. Only a madman would have braved the no-see-ums this morning for a picture. My friend shooting with me said we will never sell a picture from this morning for less than $1500. They were even biting my eyelids when I blinked. I also had a nice acrobatic slip and fall that killed a 5d2 and 24-105. Second camera death this year. Thank goodness for insurance.

I appreciate the leading lines, both in the foreground and in the sky, however ultimately this doesn't really stand out to me - especially when compared to your other mangrove work. I know I know.. that's kinda harsh considering the mosquito bites and broken camera you suffered through to get it, but c'est la vie..

I like this for its unconventional comp, interesting foreground, and beautiful sky.

no nits or gnats from me. very nice. with all the broken cameras on NPN, one wonders if the insurance companies scout NPN and up the premium if one is a NPN member?

Nice comp, Paul. Looks like some of the coastal mangrove scenery around where I live. Sorry to hear about your camera, I can totally relate as I lost mine to the ocean too. Nice drama in the sky.

I like the dark mood here, Paul. The composition is wonderful and the sky fits the scene perfectly.

No-see-ums suck! Awesome foreground shape, looks like the profile of a giant no-see-um about to bite your...

I remember this from FB Paul. I actually like this a lot. I really like the way the clouds and foreground mirror each other, and the soft light gives it a really nice atmosphere. Glad you have insurance!

Great shot, I love the FG! I wonder if evening out the brightest part of the sky on the horizon would make the main elements standout even more? :toast:

Paul,

I'd have to say a complex image of nature (foreground formations (limestone???) the mangroves and the weather/sky/clouds/light.) All those things combined for a simply and wonderful image of nature. A big, bold sky, yet subdued by your purposeful composition. I think this is wonderfully crafted.

Sorry to hear about your camera. Have you ever shot with Steve Sieren? ;-) If he ever reads this he'll know...

Lon

I find this a powerful image. Good use of the shapes in the foreground to echo the dramatic sky.

I knew this was yours from the thumb! Love it--great warm-cool dichotomy, interesting subject. :toast:
Don't know about the $1500 though--you might have more luck with $1495

Love the leading line, the cloud conrast and the elements really draw me into th shot. I think this would be a cool B&W one too with all the clouds and foreground. Well done. :toast:

Wow, can't believe I missed this one. It's fantastic! Every element in this excellent comp is working together to accentuate those trees. Lots of feel and mood. I quite like it.
