Coyote Hunt

I captured this image over the weekend shooting at Antelope Island, Utah. I was primarily shooting avian, but we watched this guy digging for several minutes, walking away, then coming back to resume the dig. This was his prize for persistence.

The obstructions in the image are dried sunflowers and it may put some off, but this reminds me of a Bev Doolittle type painting and the reason I thought I'd post it.

Image captured from the right seat of Ron Dudley's pickup.

Thanks for looking.

I really like the grasses and view here. Unfortunately, that seed-head right over the coyote's right eye mars this image badly for me. It's tough to pull this kind of shot off if the eyes, at least, are not visible. I don't know if he would have cooperated, but a step or two to your right to allow both eyes to be seen would have been great.
Nice vision to see this potential image, though.

Awesome ! Had to look in the larger version to find the vole. Love how the coyote blends into the subtle colours in the environment. I dont mind the sunflower stalk going across the face in principle but the way it obscures the right eye is a little unfortunate.

I like the over-all effect, but wish that both eyes were fully visible. Looks like a neat encounter!

Really nice image, Charles! I really like the setting! It looks like you have some nice detail in the coyotes fur, too. It's too bad about the dried sunflower in his eye, but the vole in his mouth is a bonus!
