Pronghorn Scenic

It's Christmastime which means I'm in Colorado visiting my folks and taking a break from shooting underwater.

Found these pronghorn (Antilocapra americanain the San Luis Valley just SE of Villa Grove. They were quite tolerant of us though this was as close as I could get before they would start to slowly retreat. For being shot with a lowly D200 and an 80-400 I'm pretty happy with this. Someday I need to come back with a D3s and a 600 f/4. There's a bit of "hand of man" in the background but not too bad and I haven't bothered to clone it out.

Nikon D200, Nikkor 80-400 at 400
ISO 200, f/7.1, 1/640
Full frame, some mild levels adjustment and sharpening.

Happy New Year All!

Clinton

Very nice. I like the setting you have caught these pronghorns in. Hope you do get a chance to go back. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Clinton

Very cool Image. The pronghorn in their setting while grazing with the very powerful snow covered mountains is an ideal setting
and Very pleasing. If it were my image, I would like the pronghorn a small bit brighter while not losing the mountains at all. And a very bit more foreground.

Enjoy the image and do hope to get an opportunity myself to see something similar .

Hi Clinton,

Nice scene. But forget the D3s - I think you need to go back with a D4 and a 600 f4!

I think the foreground here - both subjects and virtually all the brown grasses and brown background bushes - are a tad on the dull side. I think a selective brightening of this region of the shot would make a big difference to the visual appeal of this shot (at least to me). But still a very nice animalscape as posted that shows the type of terrain the pronghorns prefer very well.

Cheers...
