Female Merganser

This female Merganser was trying to put some distance between me and her. Lucky for me the reeds channeled her right past me allowing me to snap a few pictures.
Canon 7D 100-400mm f5.6, ISO 100, minor crop and some sharpening.

Nice pose, light and reflection. A lower angle on the merganser would be more pleasing to the eye, as would more room in front of the bird.

Nice shot of this beauty. The reeds reflecting in the water match the colors of the bird nicely. I love the bride of Frankenstein 'do and the reflection. She's close on the left but I think the trailing wake compensates for that. I would try to lighten the face/forehead area a little and I also think a lower angle would improve it. Overall a striking shot.

Bill, I agree a little more room up front and a lower angle may have been good. Nice looking Hoodie and I like the sharpness. It may need a slight rotation.

I completely echo Ron's comments, but would add....on these shots with all the cattails in the BG, the reflection of them on the water, really makes this into a busy scene. I usually try to find a shot where they are in-between those cattails to adjust for that. Of course, that is assuming it is even possible...not all lakes have a break in cattails.

She´s a beauty, nice sharpness and I really like the reflection. More room in front would be nice if you have it and it looks like it could use a small cw rotation. :toast:

Thanks for all of comments and critiques. There was a really dark reed in front which I thought was very distracting, so cropped a little short on the left. Went with a 8X10 crop and was able to give more room on the front. also brightened up forehead..looks better thanks!

I like the reed reflections Bill. As others have mentioned I would leave more room in front and on top if you have it and take some away from behind even if there is a darker reed out there.
