I have been trying to find time to get to the Garden of the Gods, an amazing city park in Colorado Springs, at either early morning or late day. Well, late day won. I'm borrowing a song lyric from my misspent youth for the title. My cable release pooped out and had to use my softest touch to release the shutter on this tele shot at about a half second (of course the tripod was also used, or it would have turned into a Jackson Pollock). I'm amazed at this place called Colorado. It's beautiful.

A beautiful portrait of a worthy subject in good light!

I don't know what kind of camera you use, but to prevent finger vibration you can shoot with the self-timer if you don't have a release.

Thanks Michael. D300s, this was about 45 minutes after sunset. I have used the self timer technique in a pinch, but had locked up the mirror when the cable was still working, so didn't think to change the shutter setting after it quit. Yup, the self timer would have given me both mirror lock up and been touchless. Sometimes I get caught up in the moment and make dumb choices.

Wonderful image, the textures in the sandstone is very nice. I"d kinda like to see the main rock mass moved out of its central location with more room on the right. The comp feels a little tight to me but its a matter of taste. The trees grouped at the foot of this monolith are great accent elements.

Nicely done image of the Garden. Go there whenever I get to Colorado. Good hints on using timer. TFS.

I like the soft sky. Feels a bit tight overall (as Nancy notes) but pretty nice. Looks like you picked the wrong time though, based on Erik's post and Nancy's of the sunrise yesterday--which i also missed...

Yup Stan, seems like the story of my life. Tuesday morning the sky exploded in color up here in Monument - while I was eating breakfast safe and warm at home. Someday, someday...

Here's a re-post from a slightly different location that allowed for a little more breathing room with the comp. Thanks for the input!

I love Garden of the Gods Russell (as I have told Stan many times). I like the repost better but wish for better light as I did when I was there.

I like the comp, but the balance of light doesn't feel quite right.
