This summer, I went to Alaska with one of my goals being getting a good image of an eagle flying. This isn't what I had anticipated but I like the action and to be honest, I had never seen an eagle swim. I've cropped it numerous ways, this being about a 75% of full image, and would appreciate any comments. Thanks for looking.

Appears a bit dark to me... on my monitor.
I like the positioning of the eagles on the left. And a swimming eagle! Maybe standing on something??? Slightly better on the larger version
The larger version shows nice feather detail on the eagle on the left branch portion.
If this were my photo I would do "something" with the water and background, probably brightening the water for contrast with the dark eagle plumage and darken the back ground. I would have to play with it but conceivable could make the photo 'pop' a bit more.

Great action in this photo! Swimming eagle...very interesting  . I'm not the best one to critique wildlife shots because I have very little experience with them so far, but I find the land in the background distracting. Of course, your angle of view has kept the top eagles wing in that land area, so it would be a challenge to get rid of it. I'm one for trying to clone in the distant water up past the top eagles wing and then crop in a little more but that sounds like quite a challenge and possible degrade the clarity of your shot too much. I wonder if you converted it to BW if that would help. Regardless, it's a great action shot and I certainly would be ecstatic if I produced a shot just like it!

Wow, I would think that "I like the action..." is an understatement! Must have been one of those unforgettable experiences. Where there is interesting stuff to see, I am all for including it, but I think I might crop this more (with this kind of action, who cares if a little noise shows up), still keeping most of the interest on the left side, but cutting a bit from the bottom and sides, and eliminating the ligther part of the beach on the top. Congrats on a unique and exciting capture.

Hey Mark, I have only seen eagles momentarily dunked - never swimming. This is a great shot with good detail. The dude in the lake looks a tad ticked at the younger generation!! :toast:

Wow! That's some serious action! What a great moment! The photo does feel a bit underexposed... maybe just a touch more brightness for the finished image. The background is a bit distracting, too... I might have used a wider aperture to narrow the depth of field and blur out some of that. However, this is a wonderful image that really grabs my attention! Well done, Mark!
