Image Lake (WC)

This was taken this fall during a difficult 5 day, 50 mile backpack through the Glacier Peak Wilderness in Washington. I live in Ohio, and I get out west infrequently. Backpacking GPW, and camping at Image Lake, was an ambition of mine for 20 years. The fact that I got a beautiful sunrise the morning I was there was more than I could have hoped for. The image isn't perfect or even my "best" in 2011, but it is probably the most personally satisfying of the images I took in 2011. Nikon d700, 24-70 @ 70, Split ND.

When I first posted this in Landscape, there was a comment about the image feeling cut off at the bottom. I could not include more at the bottom because of the near lakeshore. However, here is a cropped version which lessens the sky and perhaps gives better balance to the image overall.

Wow Scott. You certainly were rewarded for your efforts. I can see why this photo is a favorite. I like your original post much better as I think the repost reduces the emphasis on the sky and therefore increases the emphasis on the cut off relfection.

Scott this is very beautiful! I love your first post better. I originally thought "why did he cut off the bottom?", but I understand now. Maybe if you had your 12 ft ladder with you, you could have gotten more reflection  The colors are fabulous and the mountain looks like the top of a toasted meringue pie. Sweet!

I like the first one, Scott. I don't feel that the bottom is cutoff. Beautiful image.

Nice photo all around.
I like the first one best. Enough on the lower central portion to know the shadow is a reflection.

Wonderful shot, Scott! I live in Ohio, too - but visiting the mountains out west always feels like coming home... I grew up out there, and someday I'll get back there to stay. I prefer the first image with all that lovely sky. It's a beautiful image and it doesn't feel unbalanced to me. One of the things I love the most about the western region of the US is that there is so much open space... and such broad, clear skies. So, I think you should keep the sky. Beautifully done!

I like both versions Scott..But since that sky is where all the action is, I must go with the original
Well done :wavey:
