Saturday evening, Jay and his wife Karole and I were out photographing a Snowy Owl. I had moved around to the right to get a different perspective. Shortly before sunset, thousands of blackbirds started streaming into the reeds behind us. Jay and Karole took turns with the big lens, and in this photo Jay is photographing the full moon and the birds while Karole is on the owl. 7D, f/8, ISO 400, 1/160, 277mm with small crop.

Great shot Rob. I like the oof background that shows a "blending" of the birds. The mass flights of the blackbirds, (or starlings or crackles, depending on who you are talking to ) are a beautiful sight. We watch them come across our property and it looks like waves of black as they move through the fields. The red in the clothing provides good contrast adding focal points when viewing the shot.

Sounds like a great outing. That's a huge flock of (probably) blackbirds! Really, I think you just threw mud at the top half of your lens.
