While on a water garden tour we were given this pond plant. Late last Fall it produced this flower which lasted a few hours before the petals split out and turned ugly. SLT A-55V, F11,110mm,ISO 100, Manual, Tripod.

All comments welcome.

Thank you.

William, Ithe detail in the bloom is excellent. Nice light on the petals as well. My only quibble is the framing is too tight around the bloom and too much negative space to the left of the bloom for my tastes.

Lovely bloom and wonderful detail. As mentioned, a little more room around the bloom would be nice.

Stunning Details, William  and great depth of field to cover the center of this flower right down to the petals and the leaves. Striking Reds light up the frame. As already mentioned by others a bit more room on the top and bottom will give the flower more breathing space.

Just as an aside, this looks more like a Hibiscus Flower - Papyrus Egyptian did not give me anything close to this Flower.

Thank you for the suggestions. I was restricted at the top because of where I had placed the background (A mistake I realized too late since I did not load the images on the computer until after the flower had turned ugly.) so I evened it out at the bottom for balance. I agree there is not enough space to the left of or surrounding the flower. The only identification that came with the plant was a green tag that had the name and care instructions. It is possible it is wrongly identified. I tried to identify the plant online at some water plant web sites but could not come up with a match. I have other photos but thought this was the best of the group. I will take a second look at those to make improvements otherwise I will have to wait until Fall for another attempt. I appreciate the feedback.

Thank You.

Gill:
Striking color! Red always stand out nicely from the black bg. Nice details and good DOF. I agree with Ram that this looks more like a Hibiscus.

William: Definitely a hibiscus variant. That is their natural history as well with large extremely short lived flowers. We have several in our garden but they are not water plants. I think their location was coincidental. I'll ditto the other earlier comments regarding the room but you got the center details right which is critical for these flowers IMO. >=))>
