Fly to the Sun

And another contribution to fly week. This comes from the same shoot as the alien fly that I posted two days ago. What I like about this shot are the iridescent colors on the fly and its red eyes. Conditions were almost perfect on that day, with a thin layer of clouds diffusing, but not blocking, the light.

Nikon D300 + 105/2.8 AF-S VR Micro @ f/10.

Please let me know what you think.

Like the metallic green and the neat eyes on this one- A fine DOF choice as well- I'd prefer a tad less squared framing, but that's just a matter of tastes- Very well done, Fabio

My what big eyes you have! I like the irridescent colors as well. Nice complement to the flower. Amazing what a macro shot can do to showcase ordinary things. Thanks for posting this. :toast:

Fantastic, Basil. Superb macro details. :toast: I think a thin border around your image would help separate it from the white NPN background but this does not take anything away from the image itself.

A nice palette of colors. Not all complementary but they work well here. Excellent detail where it counts. My only wish would have been better focus on the proboscis (mouth parts). Still a great image.

I really like this fly shot, Basil! I think your comp works really well. The very pale, out of focus background gradually yields to more focus and more brilliant colors as one's eye travels down the picture from top left to bottom right. Great details on the body and eyes; good color treatment and lighting.

Super shot Basil. I really like the colors and the way the work into each other here, the iridescent blue and yellow and the yellow of the flower and the macro detail is great.
