Bones of a Pier

These are the remains of the Frisco Pier on the outer banks of North Carolina west of Cape Hatteras. This is what's left of it after Hurricane Irene came through last fall. I don't know if it will last through another Nor'easter.

5DII, 16-35mm, f22, 1/60 sec, ISO 100 - I was trying to get a starburst but the light was too diffused...please view large for more detail.

Very effective image - sure does look like a skeleton. A little dark on the left side - would benefit, imo, from some lightning up in that area.

Bones or skeleton are the right word for this. Your choice of silhouetting the pier really brings out the effect too. I have to guess that too much detail would be lost in showing its whole expanse in bright light. For me it really lets the shadows "build on" the effect, too. Well done.

Awesome shot Wick! Love the dark moody feel of this--adds to the sense of doom of this dilapidated structure.
