Wyoming Porcupine

While deer hunting in Wyoming we saw this Porcupine crossing a meadow, he was somewhat co-operative, I wanted more light on his face but he didn't. Should I try to lighten it up some?? Any feedback is appreciated.

I really enjoy the photos that you all post, what a variety of subjects, and some very smart people. Thank you for your advice.

You could burn the bright areas on the flank and dodge the right side of the face I guess. Also, a larger photo would be welcome. By the way, unlike the porcupines we find in India and Africa, this guy seems to have smooth fur, not needles!

Hi Tammy, I am glad this guy distracted you from your hunt, and so were the deer I am sure. I think when looking at a larger version there might be enough detail in the shadows so that there is no need for opening up the shadows. Based on this small image alone I would suggest to open the shadows a little.

This looks like a juvenile, and they can be much more cooperative than the adults. Needles are buried in the hairs and mostly visible from a posterior view. You can easily open up the shadows in Lightroom and it may improve the photo a bit.
I really enjoy and learn from the NPN posts!
