This last summer, I spotted this tree during a hike. It really stood out against its surroundings, and seemed to have 'character' that I don't usually see in a tree.
I wish I had left a little more room on the left, and played more with the DOF, but oh well. Maybe next time...

BTW, if you have time, take a look at my gallery here on NPN and tell me what you think I need to work on in my images---I enjoy the critique!
C and C appreciated (you can ignore the above statement if you wish

7 commentsI like this very much. What a great tree - tons of character here. Now I'm not sure if there's any extra processing or just the natural lighting, but I think the darkness on the left and right create a nice vignetting that really helps keep the emphasis on the craggly old tree.
I could see burning down the rocks a little bit, but other than that I don't have any nits or other suggestions.

ps. you have a nice gallery of images growing. I won't comment because, well, I already commented on all of them!

I'm with Lon and Dan,
I love this shot..
that is one interesting tree, nicely seen and captured.
Lon---I forget exactly what I did in terms of processing this, but I do believe I burned some around the tree to make it pop out a bit. I'll also see what can be done about the rocks...
Jon---This does bring back incredible memories. The hikes up and down the front range are incredible, and this specific area is especially unique to wander around in!
