A break from the barred and an image of a Florida burrowing owl. A different subspecies from those found elsewhere in the U.S. I had a chance to spend some time with these wonderful little owls this past weekend. What a treat. I hope to go back to this area in April or May, when the young are out and about.

Nice, Ron. A good, uncluttered look at this fellow. I like the side lighting. I leave for Florida in the morning and may get over to see a few of these little Owls.

sweet, Ron. great light, super bg, excellent detail and exposure, and a perfect comp. nice low angle too. I really like the dramatic light. to pick nits, I would say that to my eye, the auriculars appear slightly oversharpened relative to the rest of the bird, probably due to different texture of the feathers, so I might tinker with locally reducing the sharpening just below and behind the eye. just a minor suggestion on a beautiful image though.

Ron, The light is sweet and your exposure is great. I like the pose of the owl and the FG and BG colors really compliment the owl.

Very nice Ron, beautiful light and I love the setting and the pose. The low perspective really makes this shot.

Nice one of this free standing bird. Here you can see how long the legs actually are ! I am envious (in a positive sense that is ;-) ), Cheers, Hans

Really nice capture of this awesome looking owl Ron. I like the direction of the light on this image, and the bokeh of the background is a great backdrop for this guy.

Excellent, even if it isn't in flight. The light is wonderful; the setting is fine. Overall image quality is up to your normal high standards.

Fine shot. I like the directional light with the owl against a dark background - there's just enough detail in the shaded areas of the birds right flank. Excellent detail, just as you would expect at nearly FF.

Ron,
Can't wait to see the youngins in a few months. You gotta love these little guys. Fast as bullets but very cute. Nice background, very nice composition and pose, and sharp. :toast:

I have never seen one of these, you have found some really neat owls lately. Excellent job dealing with the strong directional light and nice job of hand holding the 500 lens for a vertical shot, well done.

Great use of the side lighting, the light/shadow lends itself to a nice 3D look here Ron.
Very good details, everything works!
