This is another of the many images I got of these two Ospreys building their nest and going through mating rituals. San Joaquin Wildlife Preserve January 22, 2012 These shots were taken in fairly low light early in the morning on a very dreary day.

Nikon D-300 Nikon 200-400 MM lens f/5.6 1/640 ISO-800
200mm Manual exposure white balance cloudy

Nice image! Pretty flat though; needs a bit more processing to liven it up.

I'd also suggest setting the camera to "auto" WB - I've never found this to fail. The 300 series nikons read the WB as well as the eye, IMO - and then it's one less thing to have to remember to fool with.

Your exposure is pretty good, so be sure your "levels" and "curves" are set correctly. Then, play around a bit with the colour sats and the contrast slider. Then, add a bit more sharpening - and I bet you'll end up much better with this nice image.

Nice capture! It does seem a bit flat though.

Cool interaction and I like the wing spread of the osprey on top Patrick. I agree with others about the flat look this one. Re-working this one and making some adjustments should help with that.

Interesting behavior. Looks like the light was a big challenge. I agree with some of the issues previously mentioned.
