Another of the images from a recent trip to Costa Rica. This from the dry forest of Santa Rosa National Park, about 45 north of the city of Liberia. The dove was preening as the sun shot thru an opening in the forest canopy.

What an awesome looking dove Chuck. Love the dappled light and the habitat. Head turn and catch light really make this work for me. The only very small nit is the OOF FG branch in the lower central and left portion of the frame. It grab my attention a bit.

Ron-thanks for the comment on the dove. All the captures I made in this part of the Guanacaste were in very deep and dense vegetation, and I struggled mightily to grab a clean shot-but there was always something that protruded into the comp. Tough shooting for sure.

I understand completely Chuck. I love the bird and the overall image. The OOF branch just caught my eye, so I mentioned it. Overall a great shot IMO.

I have these here year round Charles, love the way the rusty reds of their wings show inflight.
Great setting and look back pose here. Nice details, colors, & filtered light too.
Well done :toast:

They are in my yard every day of the year as well. But I find them very difficult subjects who take flight as soon as I touch the camera. I rarely get an unobstructed shot of one so I think this is quite good as posted.

Love the mottled light and the texture of the ruffled feathers. I enjoy the natural setting also. Nicely done.

The feathers show extraordinary detail as the dove fluffs them to groom. Nice eye contact. Too bad about the OOF branch on the left. If you are like me I hate to spend the time to clone these offenders out. All in all a nice image.

wow, Chuck, I absolutely love the textures in the plumage here--beautiful and fascinating. there's an odd diffuse gray halo around some of the bird's head which looks like a processing artifact, but I could be wrong.

Charles,
It's tuff to get a clear shot of anything in Costa Rica but you nailed this one. Very cool looking dove for sure. Love the red in the wing feathers. Great head position and exposure. Background is a bit busy but not much you can do about that. Great image. :toast:

Nice subject, perch and environmental surroundings. As others have said the foreground branch on the left adds nothing and could easily be removed without disturbing the dove. If your intention is PJ you must leave it as is, but if you intend the image to be presented artistically definitely clone it out. Its always the artist's choice. :wavey:
