Windy Miners Beach

This is a picture I made on a cold and very windy October night on Lake Superior. Miners beach is just east of Munising in Upper MI and if going east it is the beginning of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. This was a night when all the other photographers that had been there had all left and I had the place to myself...except for Tom Haxby when he came walking back from a point in the opposite direction after shooting the sunset. This is a b/w conversion of the color version I posted last year.
Thanks to all of you for your comments on my last post!

Nice. the motion blur in the grass and water hint at an evening breeze beneath those clouds. Great sense of place in this image. I like the conversion a lot

The b&w conversion is very nice but makes this a completely different image. This version really emphasizes the textures in the tree trunk, waves, and sky. The color version has a very nice sunset capturing much of the attention.

Excellent composition, Nick. The diagonal of the beach, the snag in the foreground and the nice motion of the water, and the great range of b/w tones really make this work so very well. I can almost feel that biting cold wind.

This looks great in B&W. Just love the textures all the way through the scene.

A very nice b&w Nick. The fg driftwood is nicely mangled, and together with the windswept grasses and moody sky, create a feeling of isolation and bleakness that suites b&w perfectly. Great job with the conversion... really like this one.

This has a soft, painterly feel to it Nick. The processing looks good and I think it does a good job at conveying a sense of place and mood.

So many interesting elements throughout the frame, all tastefully arranged in your composition. I especially love the foreground detail, which helps place me in the scene. The B&W presentation is really nice, IMO.

I haven't seen the color either, but I am very much liking the B&W. Real nice scene and the B&W works really well.

Nice shot. The B&W conversion really works and I think adds to the atmosphere. I can almost feel the wind sweeping across the waves anf foreground grasses. :toast:

Wonderful scene Nick, I don't remember seeing the color version so I can't really compare but I do like the b/w treatment here. The diagonals from the foreground up through work really well together! :toast:
