Beware the Pogonip

I'm not sure this freezing fog qualifies as a pogonip if I'm not in the Sierras, but I like the word. I realize this is a rather truncated composition. I wanted to put emphasis on the morning light just catching the tips of the heavily rimed branches as the fog started to burn off but I also wanted to hold on to the sinister mood of the fog itself. Might have been trying for too many things at once. Comments and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

Canon T1i
1/13/sec f/16 75mm
tripod, delayed shutter release

Selectively brightened the fg snow in pp.

I really like the foggy, frosty feel of this image. I do wish the composition was a little looser or a little tighter. The "foot" of the fg tree is cut right at the base and I keep wanting to see a little more there. Its still a very nice image that capture the atmosphere well.

I'd say you did well. There is a distinctly sinister feeling here provided by the bluish cast and the limited sight distance due to the fog. I also like the repetition of the foreground tree shape by the two smaller trees in the middle ground.

Love how the frost outlines the trees and the mood that the fog imparts. Great composition in my opinion. Really well done.

I love the different tones here Nancy. I especially love the way the frost outlines the branches, reminding me of backlighting on ckolla cactus somewhat.

I can see this also working with the snowy foreground cropped out. That would make for a more graphic image. Just a suggestion. This works for me as is.

Different and interesting, Nancy. I like the contrasts and layering that comes with the atmospherics. Maybe would have been nice to have a little more snow below the bottom tree.

Wow, nice and clean, no noise, and great clarity! I love the weird layers here, theyre kind of haphazard, but the spacing works for me. The only nit i have is maybe for a bit more space/snow at the bottom. Oh, and crop/clone out the little branches up top. Nice! :wavey:

Nancy Lea,

I'm really liking this too. I would agree about giving this some more room on the bottom (which I see this is cut off by the snow, your frame isn't cutting off the trunk.) But fairly minor. The fog and the frost come off very well here and in fact I think create not only layers, but also some nice depth to this frigid scene. Well seen and captured!

This looks nice. Interesting comp. My only nit is maybe a little bit more space at the bottom. I love the frosty feel of this image.

Lovely light and fog Nancy. I too wish there were a little more room at the bottom. Beatiful scene none the less.

Very nice! Nancy. I really like how the frost on the trees looks. For me just a little more room on the bottom would work better, but still quite nice.

I'll echo David's comments. The ice and fog are really nice, just wish that there was a little more room underneath the closest tree. Looks like some neat conditions to work in.
