Abraham Lake

I'm sure many of you recognize Abraham lake from Darwin Wiggett's awesome shots done there. I recently went with a buddy to photograph along the Ice Fields Parkway but the weather turned to crap and we made a last minute decision to do a little shooting at Abraham Lake since there is more flexibility there. The wind was crazy strong so I used it to my advantage showing the movement in the snow. I had to dig one of my crampons into the ice while shooting from knee level to prevent myself from being literally blown across the ice! I chased my toque and one of my gloves across the ice and could not catch up until they hit something and got stuck! I would appreciate any comments on how I might be able to improve this shot before putting it on my website. Thanks for looking!

So many amazing shots coming from Abraham Lake, and this one really is amazing! Love the snow blowing across the ice!

Unimprovable. I really like it, believable colours, excellent balance of lighting, sombre mood and the sun correctly brilliant. Love it.

Wayne, this is very nice. It certainly comes together quite well here. The lines and motion are perfectly handled. No easy task in those conditions! Nothing not to like about this one.

I like as it is, specially the fg ice crack and the snow movement. Minor thing that the mountain on the left a bit dark.
Maybe also you could try a B&W sonversion.

This is beatiful as is Wayne. The radiating lines in the sky and on the ice are very powerful.

A beautiful shot with great lines and really nice subdued colors - love it! I would like to see a little more shadow detail on the mountain on the left.

Marc,
No doubt this one is influenced by your shots! This one is actually a continuation on a shot I tried last year. I just recently had the chance to give it another go... I was much happier with the results this time around. For those that are curious, here is the link to the other shot.

Nothing ground breaking from a comp standpoint but still an incredible shot. It would be nice to see a little more detail in the left mountains - maybe a contrast mask to balance things out. It's pretty amazing as is too...

completely wonderful. the snow streaking across the ice makes the image but it's the deep, crystal clear fault lines beneath the surface that catch and hold my imagination. this is just about perfect.

Great comp Wayne, the sheen on the ice is very nice and the snow lines running through the shot take my eye right through this.

Awesome shot. The only possible thing that could be improved at all would be to bring out a little detail on the left mountain. Beautiful. :toast:

Seems everyone is out on frozen lakes these days!
This is pretty wicked, Wayne--what really makes it a cut above the usual Abraham lake stuff is that cool mimicking of the blowing snow in the suns rays--very interesting! :wavey:

No comments from me other than, post it as is because I think it's fantastic. The leading lines to the horizon and then the glowing rays of light around the sun are what make this a great image.

Very cool shot Wayne! I agree with Stan about the sunrays mirroring the blowing snow elevating this from the usual. Almost thought this was a Marc shot when I first viewed the thumbnail...good stuff!

Pretty standard comp, but the combination of light, blowing snow, and depth in the ice certainly make for a powerful shot. Wouldn't mind seeing some more detail in the mountains on the left but certainly not a dealbreaker. Nice work. :toast:
