Winter Stream

This is a recent shot of a meandering stream near Lake of the Woods, OR. Converting to B&W made the textures of the scene stand better than the color version. Let me know what you think. (PS this is my first post--very excited to participate).

Welcome here Todd! I have learned a lot from the people on this site. You'll learn a lot from their comments and by commenting on other's work as well. This is a nice scene, and I think you did a good job converting to B&W. The only thing I can say is I wish the stream was a bit more obvious. It sort of gets lost in the grass and is hard to see. I look forward to seeing more from you!

I agree with Raymond, the stream gets lost, and if you hadn't mentioned it I might have missed it alltogether. Don't be afraid to really lighten or darken up elements in Black & Whites. I would try and get a selection of the water and then brighten is up or darken it down to get some separation in tones from the neighboring grass. I think this would help lead the eye through the image.

Hi Todd - Welcome to NPN and the Landscape Gallery. Nice B&W conversion but I might be tempted to add more contrast.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I tried playing around with the stream in Lightroom but I can't seem to get the stream darker without ruining other areas. I might try playing with it in Elements.
