Icebound Leaf

A dead leaf is suspended in ice just below the surface. I was walking out in the middle of a frozen lake when this caught my eye. This was taken on an overcast day so the original image was really dull--I added a lot of contrast and color saturation to liven it up.
Canon 5DII, EF17-40@40mm, 1/160s f11, ISO 200.
A technical side-note: I had to use a very high jpg compression setting to get the file size below 300kb. I'm guessing that's due to all those thousands of little bubbles creating a lot of image data?

Nice find. I like the contrasting blue and yellow colors. The color processing looks perfect to me.

yep, all the detail of the bubbles will mean compression (literally!). nice contrasting colours and great find. the bits of relatively evenly distributed brighter snow really add to the composition.

Wonderful colors in this, Bill. The leaf color contrasts nicely with the ice color. I like all the texture in the ice too!
