Siberian pines, standing tall against the driven snow. Could be a pencil drawing, methinks.

Katon-Karagai National Park in the Altai-Sayan Mountains of East Kazakhstan - a place I was privileged to visit, all too briefly, in November 2011.

thanks for looking; thanks for comments on my last post - let me know what you think here - all feedback is very welcome and useful.

hasselblad 500c/m, 150mm, tripod, Ilford Delta 100 b&w film, remote cable.

Stuart, I appeciate your sensitive composition very much. A consistent b&w image and an advantageous use of the square formate in my opinion.

That is a masterful comp imo! And the conversion feels dead-on to the great qualities of Ilford film. I always used Ilford when I shot B&W film. I hope this ends up in a gallery somewhere, or at least on your wall! :toast:

Very graphic and enjoyable to look at Stuart. Excellent B&W film image. I can only imagine how wonderful a large print of this would look!

This looks really great Stuart, you're right it could be a pencil drawing. It really suits the square format and your comp is spot on. Love all the snow sticking to the trunks.

Gary.

There is something about a B&W film image in square format that sucks me in almost every time. Very nice. If I'm to critique it at all, the only suggestion I might make is that you could make it a touch brighter. Your brightest pixels (aside from the white pin line between the image and the black frame) are at around 250. OTOH it is a fog scene and wouldn't have been bright so you've probably hit it just about right for this particular subject.

I love a good B&W and this certainly falls in that category, Stuart. The graphic repeating lines of the tres work beautifully with the falling snow. :toast:

This has a very powerful graphical element, Stuart. The tree trunks with white line of snow through the middle are the most striking element here. Excellent.

I was looking for a scene like this the other day, deeper in a spruce forest. I couldn't find it. You've presented this wonderfully.

This is a really cool image Stuart and b/w was a great choice for this scene. I like how the tree trunks are all covered in snow. You did a good job composing the scene to get some separation between the trees. Well done

Fantastic, Stuart, simply fantastic. Love those deep blacks and lines of the trees in the foreground and how the fog and diminishing contrast of the gray tones as the eye moves back, creates such a sense of depth. Hope you print this big. Superb work. Superb art.
