Osprey Rising

Hi everyone, I've just returned from 3 months of shooting and leading tours in Ecuador as well as spending time with Angie's family there. I had some trouble with my laptop so I have only processed the barbet so far, I'll start getting more from Ecuador up next week. I took this shot last spring at Ankeny NWR in Oregon. This Osprey had just snagged a good sized catfish and was preparing to exit the water. About 85% of the original image.

Love the image Nate. Looks like it could use a CW rotation?

Great timing on this one Nate. I like the partial reflection as well. Good exposure and good eye contact. Looks like he went in right in front of you. Nice work! :toast:

Welcome back to the great North-west Nate:biggrin: This is a killer action shot. By the looks of that wave it must have been a huge catfish, I like the very determined look on the osprey's face. Sweet Photo :toast:

Excellent capture and exquisite timing. Did you consider a bit of counterclockwise rotation?

Thanks for your comments everyone! This was a tough one as far as rotation. I have had suggestions for both cw and ccw rotation in this thread. If you go by the splash it needs just a touch of cw rotation but that would have the left wing pointing down a lot, making it look not quite right, so I left it as I shot it which seemed a good balance to me.

This is just wonderful! I think you have the rotation right, looking at the reflections. Sharon

Very neat shot. Looks like this bird is rising from the depths like the Phoenix of greek mythology. :toast:

What a striking image, Nate! Love the wing spread; trying to imagine the power it must take to break out of the water, especially with payload. This shot expresses the effort beautifully.

Hey Nate-welcome back. Terrific action capture and the usual excellent techs as well. I can't get over the strength these bird possess to be able to pull themselves and their prey out of the water from what looks like little or no remaining forward flight motion. Great work getting this image!

Wonderful timing to get this Nate, I like the wing display and how the osprey looks half submerged in the water, nice job in getting this, well done.
