In the Eyes of the Owl

Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) photographed at the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre in Coaldale, Alberta. The Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation is rehabilitating and releasing injured birds of prey back to the wild.

Often the eyes of Owls absorb much of the incident light. Here they reflect the image of the outside world. Hence the title of this image. I have several more "eye photos" of other Owls that I will be posting.

Canon 7D, Sigma 150-500 at 500 mm, ISO 1250, 1/100 sec at f/6.3, no artificial light, handheld, cropped to 73 % of a large RAW capture. PP in LR3. I chose a tight squarish comp because I wanted to emphasize the eyes.

All C and Cs are much appreciated. Thanks for viewing. Roger.

I like the tightly cropped photo. The eyes tell the story. They make me feel like I am being interrogated by a detective under the bright lights.

Nice, Roger. Surprisingly little noise with those shooting parameters. I like your choice of crop.

I very much like the eyes and the detail around the eyes and the beak. I also like the background colors.
