Osprey at Weeki Wachee Preserve, Florida

1/640 at f8 and ISO 400 EC +2/3
Canon 500mm with 1.4 TC
Canon 7D

An Osprey couple has been nest building and one keeps up a constant screech as the other goes to collect branches and moss for the home. It has been very cloudy the past 4-5 days and this morning was the first chance to get a shot. Unfortunately it was very windy and they did not spend much time bringing branches to the fairly new nest. I don't recall the nest being there last year.

Scott,
Larger image shows great detail. Love the open beak/Scream look you captured here. Glad you were finally able to get some good light and a nice blue sky. Looks like a nice nest. Hope you're able to get some images later this year of the offspring.

Excellent detail in the larger image. Like the open mouth. It appears he is looking up for his mate to return. Very nice shot of a nesting Osprey; actually one of the prettier Osprey shots I've seen.

Nice detail and not too steep an angle for an Osprey nest, Scott. Great eye and pose.

Great angle for an osprey nest. I hope you get lots of opportunities here. It looks like you framed the image to include the entire branch sticking out at the left. I would probably try to have more room on the right even though it would cut off the branch. Really nice detail, especially visible in the larger version.
