I previously posted an image of this buck with a sapling in front. The general consensus was the sapling was a distraction. So. I posted another shot for consideration. This was shot at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge. Comments and critiques welcome.

Canon 7D
Canon 100-400 mm IS
f5.6
1/50 sec
ISO 250
Focal Length 400 mm
Bean bag rest
Full frame, minor Photoshop adjustments

Good shot of this big buck! Not easy to get these shots, even on a refuge. Have you tried more of a profile shot that was more of a square around the deer head? Just a thought, because it looks good now!

Although there are quite a few contrasty branches in the background to draw the eye, I believe I prefer this version. What a super buck! I think you might be able to maximize impact with some selective processing to lower the brightness on the "hottest" of those background branches, allowing the buck to pop to the front even better.

I definitely prefer this version Jerry. I particularly like the head-on view which shows the antlers well. Having catch lights in the eyes is also a big plus. Yet, I do find the OOF BG branches and the vertical tree trunk a bit distracting, moreover due to their unfortunate placement with the trunk right in between the antlers and the branches leading to the ears.

Beautiful shot, Jerry! Great detail of the head and antlers...seems like he could be brightened up a little though, and the branches in the bg are a bit distracting, but tolerable. Anyway, well done! :toast:
