An image taken during a heavy frost late last fall. Hard to see at this size, but in a larger view, the individual frost crystals look like diamonds. Single image. I probably should have taken multiple exposures for focal blending to get at least the other large front leaf sharp, but it was cold and I had to get to work. Larger image included but I could not post at maximum size due to compression. D700, 105 micro-nikkor, f16, 1/30, tripod. Comments/criticisms welcome.

Wonderful shot, Scott. The larger version have incredible details.
I like this DOF.

Great capture of the frost details and the fall colors. This single exposure is fine. I could see a modest crop from both the left and bottom to focus more attention on the sharp leaf and what looks like the buds for next (this) year's growth.

Well done! In my opinion, more dof doesn't equal a better photograph. You have a prime example here. The highlight on the right leaf emphasizes a most attractive blend of colors and crystals. I might experiment with the b/g colors to push away the gray tones with something colorful that compliments a bit better. I like the s-curve leaf.

Excellent shot- Great detail quality (especially on larger version), a nice warm BG and a fine composition choice- I agree with Ken, on this picture the OOF parts of the image help to give a three-dimensional feel- Best wishes, Fabio

Scott,

I think this is a really nice shot. I especially like the DOF and the sharpness of the crystals on the S shape as well as the leaf to the right. Great job. :toast:

Superb textures, Scott - and the less focused leaf doesn't bother me at all, I think because the tones blend the image so well. Lovely shot - and well worth the suffering !!

Scott, Frost is always a good and interesting subject  - they always remind me of sugar crystals. Everything looks great here but I find the OOF leaf closest to the bottom edge a wee bit distracting.

The combination of the warm tones and the crystalline frost is wonderful. Looks like the plant is decked out in rhinestones. Nice

Great combination of colors and love the way the frost is clining to the edges. A possible alternative would be to crop up from the bottom but is also a nice image with this comp too. In the larger version the frost details are fascinating to see.

Scott:
I like the ice crystals decorating these colorful leaves. Like you, I also wish for a little more dof of the fg leaves. An interesting and colorful composition.

Hi scott :wavey: I like the artistic overall effect of this image. Perhaps the effect would be stronger with a crop on the bottom. the colors and frost detail are delightful

I like it as posted. If I had to critique anything it would be the oof foreground leaf but it really is not a big deal. :toast:

Wonderful. Love how the colors blend with the BG. And then the frost rims. The selective dof is fine with me and in fact it guides the eye.

Great job seeing the possibilities to make this shot. Excellent color and detail. I agree with prior suggestion of cropping a bit from bottom and left.
