Sony A700
Minolta 100mm macro
ISO 200, .4sec @ f11

I did some black BG work during a few of my orchid shoots. This was taken a little early in the series (note the bud at the end of the stem). All comments welcome. >=))>

Bill:
Before I read your note, I counted only 8 blooms and thought that you have lost one blooms from the post. Seeing the bud and reading you note that this was an early image makes sense.

The black bg make the blooms stand out. Like the side lighting. On my monitor, there might be a slight orange cast?

This is lovely, Bill, though I must admit to a preference for the white ground ones. There is a slight yellowish cast - is that anything to do with setting up for the black bg ?? Love the bud seemingly about to drop from the frame !

Bill, black always seems to work well as a background because of the way it emphasizes the subject. I really like the flow of the flowers through the frame here. I do have to say that I prefer your high key version of these. The white flowers flowing into the white background was extra special. BTW, the beauty of your series from this orchid prompted me to give my wife a light colored Phalaenopsis for Valentine's day. Previously, all of ours were strongly colored.

This is great Bill. Nice lighting and great job getting such a pure white with the flowers.

You work with Orchids is one of the finest I have seen, Bill  - they can give even a seasoned photographer nightmares. Black background works well for this neatly arranged stem and the lighting is pretty cool as well
