Sugar Land, TX November, 2011

D3 ISO 640. 300/2.8 with 2x tc. f5.6 1/1600s. Handheld. A large crop. But the kestrel is my nemesis and this is as close as I could get on foot.

The crop has taken a penalty in fine detail, but it has delivered a pleasing environmental composition. I have the same problem with this species except for a couple rare encounters. I like the pose, position, background and colors in this.

Have been trying myself to get a close good shot of a Kestrel, hard to do. I like the pose and background. Nice shot. I would be happy with it.

Nice image of a beautiful bird. I too have great difficulty getting close enough for a good shot. I see them every day in the field, but they are usually perched high on a telephone line. I'd be thrilled to get this close to one.

Very nice Angela, I like the color scheme, with your 500mm, I'm sure you will be able to do better with this species. :toast:

Nice setting Angela and it has stood up well to the large crop

Cool comp, lovely color palette. Some loss of detail from the crop, I think. The Kestrel population up here is 'way down; I haven't been this close to one of ours in years.

You did well with the opportunity given to you Angela, the background seems to enhance the kestrel nicely.

I have a heck of a time getting anywhere close to these guys, so certainly understand the nemesis thing! I like the composition on this one.

Nice. The background colors really compliment the kestrels colors.

Hello Angela

Mostly clean background where it matters, clean and crisp image with the crop. Elusive little guys aren't they !

Seen on wires mostly in my area but have seen them hovering but usually too far for a decent image. Enjoy your image and looking forward to your next !!!
