AndeanRuddy Duck Display

Here's a shot from our time in Ecuador. This was taken in November at Laguna San Pablo. The male ruddy ducks were busy trying to impress the females. This is about 75% of the original image.

Excellent. I envy folks who can get the birds to face them, as opposed to facing away.

Great rushing display this ruddy is putting on for you Nate, and running toward you is a BIG plus. I've been trying to capture this behavior in our ruddy's (the US species) every spring, and now I'm going to try even harder. Sweet Photo :toast:

Beautiful shot. Love the stopped action and the details. The flying water droplets right across the frame add so much to it. I only ever see them (local species) doing this on the other side of the pond. Beautiful shot.

Great picture, Nate!
I think that the most important point here, is that you were able to shoot this picture with a 7d+500F4+1,4x HANDHELD FROM THE BOAT!!
javascript:%20x()
My pictures are blurred even if I use the tripod with the gimbal head!!!
You really deserve a "BRAVO"!
Bye!

Nate, this is really cool. I love the water flying and the ruddy coming at you in the frame.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Rebecka, I'm now using the 7D as my everyday camera with my 500mm. My old Mark III has become my backup.

Hello Nate

First time seen this species(Thanks). Fast action with interesting colours. Sharp where it matters. Water droplets frozen in motion adds to the overall mood. Enjoy the the wings movements. My personal preference mostly enjoys this motion . The effect of motion with water & wings plus the body of the duck moving diagonal and moving into the direction of his sight adds greatly to the image. Very nice indeed. & thanks for sharing.
