The Lonely Fisherman

by Michel Hammann

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted February 19, 2012185 views5 comments
The enormously high icewall of this tidewater glacier, dwarfs the lonely fisherman. Fishing near glaciers is not without its dangers because of collapsing chunks of ice causing unexpected and violent waves.
Shot made in Holgate Arm close to Aialik Glacier, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska. This aree is only accessisble by boat.
Camera: Nikon D70.
Lens: 18 mm.

The fisherman is a bit small for me here - being closer to him would have rendered the image more effective IMHO...

The fisherman is really a big small...first I didn't see him. But it gives a sense of scale to this scene.

I agree that the fisherman is a bit small in the image. I had to hunt to find him. It might help to crop the image up close to the fisherman to emphasize him more and add even more scale to the image.

Very nice image Michel. Including the boat here was a great choice. It really gives this image a sense of scale.

Wow. That really gives a sense of scale!! The whole image has a bit of a cyan cast to it. May be unavoidable due to the color of the glacier and the reflections. I think the glacier and mountains could use a slight bump up in contrast. A close up of the boat against the glacier would be a cool shot too!
