Very interesting elements that combine for a nice comp. I like the swirly stems topped by the yellow flowers contrasting with the straight grass. The lighting looks quite bright but you have handled it well. However, I wonder if diffused lighting of this scene might have improved this image because it would have toned down the shadows and helped focus interest on the plants? Just a thought.

Outstanding composition. I like the starkness seen here, but it would also be interesting to see this under an overcast sky.

I really like the comp and subject, Rick. It's difficult, IMO, to get a good comp with two competing elements, but I like this one. :toast:

Rick:
Being a student of Ikebana, I am always looking for natural 'arrangement' and this one looks really nice with contrasting lines, curves and brightly colored points. The sand provides a nice bg for the flowers. However, I find the harsh shadow a little distracting and would like this see one taken during heavy cloud or with the use of a diffuser.

I suppose I'll be contrarian and suggest that the shadows add to the photograph instead of taking away: first, they add some dimensionality/depth; second, they add some shape mirroring; and finally, they add some dynamism because of the complementary colours between the yellow of the flowers and the blue of the shadows.

Nice to see these flowers, Rick. I like the perspective - the view of the whole plant as you might come across it on a beach walk. Beautifully captured.

Great environmental image, Rick! I always like to see flowers and plants in their natural habitat. I think the high contrast in the image suits it very well. :toast:

Rick: Sorry to be so late to this party but I think this is really well seen and superbly captured. I especially like the play of the shadows. My only suggestion before you print it large would be to clean up some of the debris on the sand. Well done.>=))>
