Orange Glow

by Navin Sarma

Just past sunset, an orange glow slowly illuminated the entire scene over a peaceful section of Great Falls park.

Canon 5dm2, Nikkor 14-24mm/2.8, 2 images blended for focus at f/13, 30 sec, ISO 400

This was shot in the same location a week prior to the Venus, Jupiter, and moon shot I posted a few days ago. This was my first visit to that section of the park, and I'll have to return for more texture in the sky/reflected in the pool. Just thought I'd post this in the meantime for your thoughts.

Hi Navin,

I think you've captured the image well and it has an eerie mood to. Your composition is strong, the only thing I notice (on the large version) is the noise in the area of the reflected shadow on the large version maybe you could clean that up a little. Anyways, I think this is a great shot.

Beautiful light you captured Navin, with great depth. I like how the shapes of the clouds somewhat echo the foreground. Looks like web compression is killing the small version somewhat, but the large version looks great!

Great comp, with a nice orange glow and sharpness front to back. The top of the left background rocks look a little dark compared to the base, was burning applied here? Not sure what to make of the disconnected rock peeping into the right of the scene.

Thanks again for your comments.

Tom - I didn't apply any burning, but the disconnected rocks you noted also stand out to me. Unfortunately the better light occurred during the worse comp. Lesson learned again. :argue:

Beautiful shot. The foreground rocks are a nice lead in and the glow is great. I'm jealous. I've been to this area 3 time is the last month for sunset and each time, the light/clouds fizzled over the last 30 minutes.

Incredible light and color, and excellent work in finding a really nice composition among the apparent jumble of rock. Beautiful image.

Very nicely done, Navin. All of the 3 components, sky, land and water, provide so much interest.

Some intense gloe you captured here. While the color and clouds are fantastic, I' having a little trouble with the composition. Maybe I'm looking for a focal point that is missing? Had the colors not been this intense, I think the comp might be lacking. I know how hard it can be to get the 2 together. I'm sure as you return, you may find some other comp options, but maybe never a sky as nice as this :toast:

hi everyone... thanks again for the comments!! i really appreciate your input.

mark - have you stayed into the twilight? i've found the best light sometimes to be well past the sunset.

harry - thanks for your thoughts on the comp. i hope i can get even better conditions next time, maybe a little more texture in the sky.
