Camellia Bush

A camellia in an old vicarage garden near where I live, which is now almost in full bloom as we move into Spring. I have added another, brighter version which was my original choice but which came to seem more decorative, less natural. It may be just a question of aesthetic preference, but I would be grateful for any comments on the difference.

Canon 400D, 55mm lens, 1/320 sec @ f5.6, 1ev, hand held, Color Efex GND filter.

Ian, this is a really attractive image. Beautifully composed with the pink camellia blossoms against the blue sky, captured in perfect soft light. I think I like the original more, but, wow, it's a close call. I've changed my mind three times. Sure wish we could grow camellias in Ohio.

WOW Ian. Tough call. The original (first image) is a more documentary image to me. Excellent well crafted image for sure. The second speaks to me more of Spring. Fresh, bright, aluring and shooting out IT'S SPRIING.

This is a coy and captivating composition. No individual bloom gives the viewer a full-on view...And my eye kept scanning trying to land on one...but, then I appreciated the creamy textures and petal colors. Either version works for me...both have the same creamy quality in the petals.

Great image of these lovely Camellia, Ian! I like the first one more, but that's me, I always like images a bit darker. Unfortunately my Camellia buds are all frozen this year due the late frost. :toast:

Lovely shot with a very well placed cloud. I slightly prefer the lighter version because it feels a bit gentler and that fits with the soft pink flowers and light blue sky.

Ian:
Hard to choose but in the end I prefer the original for it more saturated color and the green is closer to what the leaves look like. Beautiful composition with nice contrast of RGB.

I really like the point of view here w/ the flowers against the sky. Nice color combination as well!

Beautifully composed group of Camellias, Ian. I liked the way it frames the soft sky and beckons the viewer to walk right in to Spring. I really like the second image better because of how bright and airy it looks-- like Spring. The first image is lovely, too, but it has a little heavier feel.
