Churchill River

On my first day in Churchill, Manitoba, the wind was blowing at about 30 miles per hour. The landscape was flat, stark, and cold. I looked for interesting patterns in the windblown snow as the sun was setting over the Churchill River. I found the weather conditions challenging yet invigorating. EOS 7D, 17-40 MM lens at f/22 and 17MM,ISO 100, Manfrotto
055 Carbon Fiber Tripod and Really Right Stuff BH 55 ball head.

Nice side lighting, what desolate view. :toast:

Yep, desolate four sure! I like the patterns in the bottom portion here a lot. The vertical format feels a bit confining, since the line that crosses from right to left leaves the frame on the lhs. But overall, a nice shot.

The bottom 7/8ths is a wonderful abstract David filled with gorgeous light and lines. The sky does not add much here and if it were mine I might consider a crop but of course that is a personal preference.

Gorgeous light, disagree about the sky - it may not be technicolor but it's nicely restrained and fits the scene.

The composition feels a little squashed up against the left side, to me. All the diagonals move my eye there and the lines parallel to the left edge keep it there....
