This photo was shot in the Dolomites in Alpe di Siussi (Seiser Alm) in June 2011 during a photo workshop that I led in the Dolomites with a group of 9 photographers.

The photo was shot with a Canon 1Ds mkIII and Canon 24-70 f/2.8L at f/8 and ISO 200. It's a single exposure post processed in Lightroom 4.

Wow! I LIKE--where exactly are the Dolomites? I've never heard of them.
Nobody lives in these houses, do they?

Wonderful image, Hans. I get a feeling of good vs. evil here. Quite a contrast of the peaceful setting of the buildings in the green meadow against the dark and sinister mountains and sky. Well seen and composed.

I really like the atmosphere of this image. The clouds moving through the valley make the image.

Like something from Lord of The Rings. I'm sure there are Hobbits hiding somewhere near. A very unique and individual vision. I admire the artistry here. :toast:

Wow...incredible landscape! Those mountains really stand out against the softness in the foreground. Beautiful!

Very interesting landscape. On the process front, I felt that the top portion is a little bit too dark.

Wow. This is spectacular. I'll bet the participants were happy with the conditions.

Thanks for the comments. Is the sky a bit too dark? Maybe if we look at it realistically, but what I wanted was to create a mood that I felt was in this picture so therefore the sky is kept slightly dark. And yes, the participants were very happy for the good days we had. We also had a few days with less good weather as one could imagine with this level of clouds ;) Mostly the weather has been very good for photography in this area.

Nice sceen, I would personally crop off the dark portion of the clouds across the top. Very nice placement of the buildings.

Absolutely stunning. The only thing wrong with this is that I wasn't along on the workshop! Whoa, what a trip that would've been!

Thanks for all the comments and also for the weekly pick status :) It's really a special place and I go there on all my workshops and the scenery can look very very different depending on the lighting conditions and time of day (early morning or late afternoon). I have a workshop in early October this year and there is still space on it, so if you are interested please send me a message to signup at hans@hanskruse.com

Very nice image. Love the various cloud designs. Good detail in the buildings. Good depth of field. My only wish would be no cloud cover on top of the middle mountain Thanks for this image.

Haven't yet seen this angle of the Dolomites and it is spectacular one! As someone said, it's like little hobbits living on the doorstep of Mordor  . Amazing capture :toast: :toast:
