Bear And Driftwood
by Dottie Short
This image of the coastal brown bear (Grizzly) was taken in the summer of 2011 in the Clark National Park Alaska. If it seems that I am positioned lower than the bear, I was. I was standing at the edge of the surf where the beach rose rather quickly elevating the bear in relation to where I was standing. The beautiful bleached white driftwood caught my eye, and I was please to see that I caught the eye of the bear. This is one of my favorite shots of my three day adventure shooting these bears.

Would appreciate any comments. Thank you for taking the time to look at one of my favorite images.

19 commentsI can recognize the bear and the log. We were stuck on that log with a mom (different bear) and her cubs on either side of us
I would rotate it clockwise (very slightly) and crop a little from the bottom to get rid of the atv prints. Not that the image is not already level, just that there is room for a slight rotation to place the bear's stare higher.
The blue of the BG mountain seems a bit strong to me, and draws attention from this marvelous bear. I'd suggest toning it down a tad.

SWEET IMAGE !! :) The inclusion of the Driftwood stump as you have catured is well placed, and completes the Capture.
Your Excellent exposure on the Stump as well the main subject is Beautiful. I really don't mind the foreground & seeing the tire marks isn't distracting at all.
If this were my Image, I would consider keeping the foreground but maybe Soften this foreground , this would bring the eyes to the Main subject.
Thanks for Sharing.

I support a crop from the bottom. Larger version is a must-see...
