I think this might work better lightened up some, but that's personal taste. Good focal point and DOF, but closer to the subject might have spared the ghosting along the rim of the blossom; however, I'm not sure what causes that.

Thanks for your comments Phil...the probable reason for the extremely shallow DOF was because of the settings: f / 2.8 at 1/20 with ISO 100.
And, the 500D close-up lens doesn't help things either.

I like the overall composition and the sharp stamen stand out nicely. I'm not sure about the colors in the petals. The blue of the insides is too dark for the crocuses that I've seen, the purple of the outside is closer to the deep purples, but it's a bit reddish. That may all be color calibration and the lack of it in various browsers as well as web color conversions, but it's something to think about. I used close up lenses early on and quickly found that there was only a small region of sharpness and it got worse as I went for higher magnifications but I never used the two lens combos like your 500D. I much preferred using extension tubes, they seem to give better edge-to-edge sharpness at a price between the cheap close-up lenses and a true macro lens.

Hi Dave well composed with good detail ... It's a very pretty image...... It's subjective, but i prefer my crocus shots to be sharp in front........ the colors are stunning and vibrant , but i have never seen a crocus so dark in the cente? my canadian species are much lighter and more lavender colored
